The plot unfolds across two distinct worlds: Dr. Cristiano Navarro’s hospital and an impoverished neighborhood on the outskirts of São Paulo. While doctors at the hospital fight to save lives using state-of-the-art medical technology, young Emanuel—living in the neighborhood—demonstrates the ability to perform miraculous, extraordinary healings with just the touch of his hands. Dr. Cristiano is married to Linda, a wealthy, refined woman twenty years his junior. They long for a child but have been unable to conceive. Linda consults Dr. Paula, a renowned gynecologist, but the doctor cannot resolve their issue. Linda then decides to seek help from Emanuel, sparking a series of conflicts with her husband. However, things are far from ideal in Emanuel’s neighborhood. He possesses paranormal abilities that sometimes manifest in ways beyond his control. An enigmatic and unpredictable man, Emanuel fears his own powers.
'Abolição' shows how much the liberation of the enslaved transformed the structures of Brazilian society, both in the countryside and in the city, and the changes generated in the lives of black people themselves. The narrative is centered on the period in which the Lei Áurea was about to be signed by Princess Isabel, on May 13, 1888. At that time, the abolitionist theme was widely discussed in urban centers, while in rural areas slavery relations were still established. The enslaved Iná Inerã, spiritual leader and warrior, represents the fight to maintain African identity at any price, paid with her own life, if necessary. Journalist Lucas, in turn, is a freed black man who believes in peaceful integration between whites and blacks.
A group of boys, roughly seven to eleven years of age, go skinny-dipping in a river near their small Mexican town one afternoon and there find themselves the butt of an old vagabond's practical joke, the man stealing all their clothes from them. Humiliated about having to walk home in the buff, the tykes decide to get even, declare war. Yet, as the generations battle it out, a mutual respect develops, the depth of which is evident once the man has a heart attack during one of his romps with the kids. Will the boys' older pal recuperate so that they can engage in one final battle.
A farm worker, after seducing the boss's daughter, flees to São Paulo. Naive, he is faced with a new world made of love, free sex and vested interests.
