Soviet propaganda film on the struggle against counter-revolution in Tambov region in the first years of Soviet power.

The end of the 50s. The former head of the department Bulygin is sent from Moscow to Siberia to build a bridge across the Severnaya River. With him goes his family: his wife, son, daughter and his daughter's fiancé. Once an experienced builder, and now just an overbearing official, Bulygin cannot find common ground with the workers, and people begin to leave the construction site. However, after many experiences and mental trials Bulygin regains the features of a skillful leader.

This film is war parabola with expressive visual style. This not typical point of view about the war for Soviet cinema.

The events take place on the eve of the Great October Socialist Revolution. At the center of the film’s narrative is the судьба of a revolutionary grenadier regiment that played an important role in securing the victory of Soviet power in Belarus.

While in Bohemia, an American industrialist named Craigs goes missing. In Prague, the police have arrested a man without identification, who bears a striking resemblance to Craigs. The doctor, the secretary, and the hotel staff all claim that he is the industrialist. The man denies this claim. When he learns how harsh and despotic the man he is believed to be is, he agrees to go to London and adopts his new identity.

The manager of the Belarusian collective farm Naideika Krasovich, inspired by the award at the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition for the high flax harvest, gives her word to double the harvest. Many fellow villagers doubt her success, and only Grigory Pavlovich, the new director of MTS, who left his family in the city and came to the village at the call of the party, provides Nadeika with all kinds of support and excessive attention, because he loves and, it seems, is loved. In parallel to this story, a plot develops about the love of the tractor driver Zosya for the forester Yanka, who unrequitedly suffers for Nadeyka.

The young teacher Lobanovich, who has just graduated from the seminary, comes to the remote Polessky village of Telshino to teach the peasant children to read and write. In the heads of seminarians persistently hammered into the idea that the Tsar-father endlessly cares about the common people, and the people respond to him sincere filial gratitude. Khristina's daughter Yulka is accused of calf death and suspended from work. Makar Shulga, the former chairman of the village council, who has now settled in the district center, is weaving intrigues against Khristina. Zhalyuk discovers that Zhilinka and Shulga were engaged in eyewash, overestimating the yields of some crops.

Young railroad worker, seemingly accommodating to Nazi overlords at a captured rural depot, secretly spearheads acts of sabotage against the evil occupying forces.
