An eighteen-year-old boy is released from an institute for minors with no family support, and for the first time tastes the bittersweet flavor of freedom; an imprisoned mother longs to go back and start all over again. These are the characters taken from the real world and transferred into a film that is first of all a shadowing of human beings, of their hopes and little acts of cowardice. But it is also the story of a time of waiting, of a soul going around in circles, a coming of age in a desolate and oppressive, marginal context that becomes a character in its own right.

Although this sounds like a weekend like many others, in the Prior house the atmosphere is rather tense because of some nervousness on the part of individual members of the family, especially the father, Peppino, who gets angry with anyone who happens to shoot: with their children, Juliana and Roberto, and his sister, aunt Meme. Meanwhile, his wife Rosa is dedicated to the preparation of the sauce, which she will serve for Sunday's lunch, to which she invited the neighbors, the accountant Ianniello and his wife.

Jennifer is melancholic and romantically unsatisfied transgender who lives in a studio apartment in Naples. In the meantime a serial killer is claiming victims in her neighborhood. She is waiting for a phone call from Franco, an engineer from Genoa currently in Milan for work, with whom she had a relationship some time before, but there are malfunctions in the telephone line. Anna, another transgender, comes to help her and they start to know each other.
