Postwar life of eight remaining inhabitants of Strmec, a village located in the very corner of Slovenian Alps near Italian border. When local partisans killed a German officer, the Nazi occupiers shot all males in the village as an act of revenge; those who remained are seven women of different age who traditionally wear black scarves, and young boy who hasn't any friends to play with.

Milan leaves his home and joins the "youth brigade", a group of young people who worked on a railway track. Tragedy strikes when Milan is injured operating one of the mechanical drills that make the building of tunnels possible. But his dedication is greater than his pain, and so he rushes back to the building site instead of staying in the hospital so that he can help the brigade meet the deadline for the completion of the tunnel.
Life Is Ours

Film about friendship between a boy and a horse. The boy and his horse love and trust each other and spend their time together running in the fields. But the boy's father decides to sell the horse because he can no longer financially justify keeping it. His son's tears won't make him change his mind. The horse is sold. After returning from school, the boy starts searching for the horse: he looks in the barn, in the yard, in the fields, even at a market. But it is all in vain. Finally, the boy finds the horse at a railway station, already inside a train wagon. A tractor driver meets the boy who is lonely and sad and shows understanding for his pain. A new friendship is born.
