La Venus D'Or (Golden Venus) was based on Business, a play by Pierre Sabatier. Mirielle Balin stars as Judith, the mistress of ruthless oil magnate Harfstrong. What Harfstrong doesn't know is that Judith is a spy for his hated business rival. When he does find out, he cannot get rid of her because she knows too much about his own crooked dealings. After several more reels of mutual betrayal and recriminations, the story suddenly shifts to the "good" characters, clean-limned young pilot Andre and his sweetheart Michelle. Set up as a fall guy for the villains, Andre somehow emerges from the experience none the worse for wear.

The film opens with the overthrow of the Czar during the 1917 Russian revolution. The family of General Count Svirsky (Roger Karl) cower in their home, certain that the mobs of angry peasants will tear them apart. But even in this moment of crisis, Svirsky can find time to murder the young officer who has been having an affair with Countess Svirska (Emmy Lynn). The Countess knows what has happened, but she loyally remains with her husband as they escape to the safety of the French Riviera. It is here that the Countess meets Henri de Cassel (Jaque Catelain), the “living image” of her dead lover.

Baron Tolento lusts for Diane Delatour, his physician's wife, and donates money to their favorite charity, a children's home, in hope of gaining her favor. When Delatour is called away, Tolento inveigles Diane into attending a party at his house. There he threatens to ruin her husband if she does not submit to his demands within three months. Diane retaliates by showing him a letter proving that Tolento has only three months to live, according to a specialist. Delatour learns of his wife's presence at the party from one of the baron's women, and when Tolento makes Diane heir to his fortune, he becomes convinced of her infidelity.

Desiring to forget the torments of her past life, the girl agrees. In the countryside she meets Pawel, a simple country boy whom she seduces. The infatuated Pawel, to whom Franka reveals her past, marries her. However, the monotonous rural life bores Franka, longing for a big-city life, and when Pawel leaves for a few days, she escapes with a man she meets casually to Warsaw, where she leads the life of a cabaret chansonist. After a few years she returns, bringing with her an illegitimate child. Pawel forgives her and takes her back under his roof. But this is not the end of Pawel's ordeal....
