The film comprises of an intense psychological experiment which was undertaken by students of a local acting college. The results were unsettling and genuinely disturbing.

Empire is a silent film homage set amidst the horrors of Napoleon's retreat in Russia, centring around a young boy fighting to survive the 'monsters' of war. It was inspired by the 1927 epic 'Napoleon' directed by Abel Grance and the neo-silent period films produced by Guy Maddin.
