This film is a social comment of the times, exploring issues that centre around relationships and what was allowed and what was not allowed at the time (early 60s) in Greece. There are sub-plots also, mainly relating to the life of the poor city dwellers, social injustice and seeming double standards. Aliki Vougiouklaki is a poor young girl dreaming of a better life and the "handsome prince on a white stallion" who will deliver her from her miserable existence. She meets and falls in love with a young man (Nikos Kourkoulos) who also falls in love with her, but things are not as simple as they first seem. His past comes to haunt them with tragic consequences. Vassilis Diamantopoulos is excellent as the half-crazed old captain whose life strangely echoes that of young Aliki.

Lisa is a student, pretending the sick not to go to school. Her parents are worried about her health and call the doctor to examine her. He realizes her lies but he covers her. Soon, they fall in love and eventually get married. However, after the honeymoon she begins to yearn school and her classmates and she returns to it without saying anything to her husband. Soon, her husband begins to suspect her because of her frequent absences from home and her secret meetings with the professor seem to confirm his suspicions.

Petros (Georgos Kambanellis), son of the factory owner Tsamis (Lavrentis Dianellos), is in love with his father's worker Martha (Martha Vourtsi). However, before they can get married, Tsamis' intrigues and scheming lead the relationship to a shipwreck and Petros marries the rich woman approved by his family. Ultimately, however, Tsamis regrets his attitude. Thus, the young couple unite their destinies and live happily ever after.

Two very poor young people who grow up together, Alexis and Anna, live in two hovels with a common courtyard and seriously love each other, thinking indeed of getting married. From one day to the next, he becomes famous, and, naturally, he is confused by his own success, changing tastes and styles. He is attracted by the glamor of a successful singer and neglects his former love. In the end, however, he will return to her, and everything will turn out fine.

Anthoula has lost her mother and her father is swept away by his new love, Martha, and moves away from Anthoula to live in Aphrodite's house. The plaintiff's lawyer in the trial is Dimitris Alexiadis, who is an arrogant lawyer. Valfis commits suicide in court and Maria believes that the lawyer is responsible for her father's death. Her revenge begins seven years later, when she gets a job at his office as a trainee lawyer under the name "Maria Valfopoulou." She then manages to marry him. A wealthy and ruthless landowner, Kitsos Mavromitsos, oppresses an entire region and uses his money to buy people and consciences. He feels omnipotent, but a poor young man, Lambros, who is in love with the beautiful Krystallo, stands up for himself and demands what is rightfully his. Kitsos asks for Krystallo's hand from her father, Barba-Chronis, who agrees to make him his son-in-law, but ignores the fact that his daughter loves Lambros. Kitsos then kills Barba-Chronis and pins the murder on Lambros. While Lambros rots in prison, Kitsos seizes the opportunity to marry Krystallo. However, Lambros escapes from prison and returns to the village, revealing the truth. Kitsos gets the punishment he deserves, as he is accidentally killed by his own brother.
