A man yearns to go into the ocean across the street from his house, but suffers from an illness that prevents him from doing so.

1954, in the small mountain town of Colombia, Alfonso, an 11-year old boy whose mother passed away, doesn't have any family and to survive has no other recourse than to leave school and begin working as errand boy at a local pharmacy. There he learns all of the basic concepts of medicine, which changes his life in spectacular fashion.

After living in the US for years, a young woman Esmeralda returns to her native land Colombia to confront her mother about her traumatic childhood memories. Back in her neighborhood, Esmeralda faces the ghosts of her past and learns to let go and forgive by creating an unbreakable bond with her mother.

In the hands of the peasant, the countryside becomes a productive space; everything around it bears fruit, not only the land, but also the cultural expressions born from its most intimate experiences, which are expressed through tunes and songs until they turn into celebration.
