While visiting his native country to shoot his first live-action film (PHI 1.618), animation filmmaker Theodore Ushev recounts the highlights of his life in Bulgaria and recalls the various underground artistic movements that have influenced him. Animation has no limits and very much like poetry renders visual symbols and metaphors powerful. Stories of doomed paper boats, intimate links to film genres, petty morning crimes, ice-cream hopes, urban moods, and industrial revelations are interwoven in this visual poetry experience.

"Natural Film" is a delicate documentary portrait of the writer Georgi Gospodinov, inspired by his cult classic Natural Novel. Unfolding through a series of beginnings, the film is a cinematic experiment centered both on the author—the first Bulgarian winner of the International Booker Prize—and on the man searching for a path and meaning through memory, melancholy, and the poetry of everyday life.
