At night, at the EDM Playhouse club in Chengdu, the euphoria of some feeds on the fatigue of others. The crowd, caught between the desire for an unfettered expression of life and the outward display of wealth, finds its contrast in the exhaustion of those who serve the revelry and in the precarity of their work.

Two brothers think they have found a golden investment formula. By having a computer trade automatically, they want to take their emotions out of the equation to make money from other people’s emotion-driven investments. Their trust has more than a million Euros in hand, but disappointing results push them ever further towards a situation where they can no longer pay the rent of their canal-side apartment in Amsterdam. To keep afloat, they have to put out all the stops - and most of all control their emotions.

Pieter, a 56-year-old writer, suffers from a personality change caused by the brain damage inflicted by a tumor. His wife Annette must learn to live with her new husband. Filmed before, during and after Pieter’s brain surgery, this film shows us how fragile our personality is and how closely it is connected with our physical brain.
