KP Kumaran was an Indian, malayalam language filmmaker who have played an integral role in modernizing malayalam cinema along with other prominent names like KG George, Padmarajan, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Bharathan and G Aravindan. Kumaran's debut directorial short film 'Rock' won an international award in the 1972 'Asia 72' film festival.
