After 37 years, the canals of Amsterdam are once again turning blood red. Tara Lee is a young ambitious detective with the Amsterdam police force who is confronted by a number of gruesome incidents around the canals. She enlists the help of Visser, a retired detective who once nabbed a serial killer stalking those same canals. They face an adversary who seems to possess superhuman powers.

Several years after her win with Whitestar, Megan (Britt Dekker) runs her own equestrian center. When Whitestar's son, the young horse Silverstar, gallops into the woods in a barn fire, he is found by 16-year-old Esmee. The two have a special bond. After the fire, horse dealer Carina offers to help Megan, but can she be trusted? Esmee finds out that strange things are happening, but nobody wants to listen to her. To save Silverstar, she sees no option but to run with the horse. Together, Esmee and Silverstar must survive in nature.

Jochem tries to motivate the students, but has a hard time of it. Their tangled web of contradictory interests is not good for harmonious cooperation. Jochem has been over-optimistic in this respect and very soon the students' own agendas are revealed.

On her way home she feels a little better and starts flirting with a man on a bicycle who is waiting at the other side of an open canal bridge. But as the bridge closes, she suddenly sees his little boy sitting in the child seat of his bike. As they pass each other on the bridge they exchange looks; his exploring, hers confused. At that precise moment a speeding car ploughs into his bike throwing the little boy out of the child seat and into the murky waters of the canal.
