Lena is a cheerful student who firmly believes in happiness and the good in people. As part of a social project, she is sent by the office as a writing coach to Hugo Drowak, who has long since lost his luck and lives alone in a run-down tower block.

At the peak of his mid-life crisis, Swiss filmmaker Stefan Keller is forced to take on a side job out of financial necessity. Consequently, he finds himself travelling throughout Switzerland as an anonymous youth hostel tester just before Christmas. Thus begins his odyssey: Stefan is in desperate need of a story; he struggles with his failed relationship; and chance acquaintances force him to face the meaning of his existence.

Kurt is a stage actor in Munich theatres. He has a critical view at our society and relationships become too close very fast. Often his attitude is upsetting his fellow men. “To change the world – start with yourself!” Kurt hires a camerawoman to make videos of his everyday life which hopefully enable him to solve his problems.

Helmut celebrates his 60th birthday on the day he is actually turning 57 (his wife miscalculated). As a façade of petit-bourgeois domesticity peels away, old friends drop by to offer some well-meaning advice through bizarre declarations of love and transience.
