Fitil is a popular Soviet/Russian television satirical/comedy short film series which ran for about 500 episodes. Some of the episodes were aimed at children, and were called Фитилёк, Fitilyok, Little Fuse. Each issue contained from the few short segments: documentary, fictional and animated ones. Directed by various artists, including Leonid Gaidai who presented his famous trio of Nikulin, Vitsin and Morgunov into the cast. It was called in USSR as "the anecdotes from the Soviet government".

The film tells about the complex relationship between two chemical scientists. Viktor Sviridov arrived from the province, where he works as an engineer at one of the factories, at the metropolitan institute in order to defend his project related to an urgent scientific problem. The protagonist of the film, Druyanov, is the director of a large boiler manufacturing plant — a talented man with vast life experience, capable of understanding current challenges and looking into the future. However, he is about to be dismissed from his position. A young appointee is in no hurry to take over and comes to familiarize himself with the plant. In the end, taking the side of the director who wants to reconstruct and modernize the workshops, he realizes that he has not yet reached Druyanov’s level.
