Two young girls, becoming women, share their thoughts and experience. One of the girls starts dating a much older married man.

Set between 1930s and 50s, The Farewell the story of Valerie, who lives in a household totally repressed by her stern father. When Valerie has a brief affair with another woman, her father is extremely angry and tries to end the affair with physical force. However Valerie’s determination, independence and lesbian feelings cannot be crushed.

David, a middle-aged researcher, lives happily with his wife Ingrid and their kids. By a coincident he meets and falls in love with a young woman named Eva. Their relationship will only last a few months.

Musse is a mannerly local doctor trying to live by the rules, but the challenges from his environment threaten his ability to control situations and he becomes the person he despises.
