Renato de Castro Borghi (Rio de Janeiro, March 30, 1937) is a Brazilian actor and author. One of the main members of Teatro Oficina, a vigorous interpreter of striking roles, in which he knows how to inject irreverence and sarcasm with balance, in a very particular style.

Directed by Roberto Talma and José Paulo Vallone, the telenovela stars Guilhermina Guinle, João Vitti, Dhu Moraes, Jorge Pontual, Ana Cecília Costa, Luiz Guilherme, Elaine Cristina, and Esther Góes. Set in Havana at the beginning of the 20th century, the story follows Maria Helena, a young woman who becomes pregnant after being abandoned by her fiancé. Afraid of her powerful father's reaction, she gives birth in secret and entrusts her son to the maid Dolores. Raised away from his family, Alberto grows up to become a doctor, unaware of his true origins. Years later, the revelation of his past brings conflicts, forgiveness, and the chance for reconciliation.

As Pupilas do Senhor Reitor is a Brazilian telenovela produced by SBT and originally broadcast from December 6, 1994, to July 8, 1995. Based on the 1867 novel of the same name by Portuguese writer Júlio Dinis, it was adapted by Lauro César Muniz, with scripts by Bosco Brasil, Ismael Fernandes, Analy A. Pinto, Aziz Bajur, and Zeno Wilde under the supervision of Chico de Assis. The telenovela stars Juca de Oliveira, Débora Bloch, Luciana Braga, Eduardo Moscovis, and Tuca Andrada. Set in a 19th-century Portuguese village, the story follows the orphaned sisters Guida and Clara, who are raised by the respected Padre Antônio, known as the Senhor Reitor. After Daniel returns home as a doctor following years away, old feelings are rekindled, but misunderstandings, forbidden love, family rivalries, and social expectations threaten the happiness of both sisters. It tells the story of two contrasting realities in the early 20th century: The construction of a railway in the Amazon rainforest and the glamorous life of Rio de Janeiro, where politicians and big businessmen lived. Consuelo is a young pianist heading toward the Amazon with her husband, Alonso. On the way, the two have an accident, and Alonso ends up losing his life. Alone and helpless, Consuelo gets lost in the middle of the forest, being weak and very sick. However, she ends up being supported by Joe Caripuna, a local Indian who welcomes the girl. The two become great friends, and Joe falls in love with the girl. He takes her to live around the railroad workers' camp, where she meets Dr. Richard Finnegan, who takes care of her health and all the workers who were in a dramatic situation. Richard also falls in love with Consuelo, who repays love, but the difficulties of work and the situations in which they find themselves make it difficult for them to get closer.
