Tomohiro takes his fiance Machiko to his hometown of Aridagawa in Wakayama Prefecture to see his family. Tomohiro’s family includes three siblings. His younger brother Takeshi refuses to go to school. His older sister Yumi isn't interested in their family. Younger sister Sayaka has an inferiority complex and has a fear of dating. There's also Satomi, who everybody calls "Mama", and she does all of the housework. Kayoko is called Kaka and she works as a snack bar manager. Narumi is called Haha and she is a high school teacher. Finally, there's their father Shoichiro, better known as Chichi. It's an unusual family, but able to exist in harmony. Due to Machiko's appearance, the family becomes shaken.
The name of the director of this documentary is Kigawa Tsuyoshi. Just through having the same family name as Kigawa, he met YOKO. She was born in Yokosuka during the turmoil of post-war Japan and was adopted to the U.S. YOKO know how deep her mother's love for her; however, she had to be adopted and moved to the United States. She hadn't heard from her mother nor meet her more than 66 years. The director searched for her mother's whereabouts and invited YOKO to Japan. The journey to find her mother begins.

Three people who have lost their hearts. Futami is young man working in a book cafe who has lost his girlfriend. Amamiya is a radio DJ who has lost his wife. Shizuna is a woman with a puzzling memory disorder and suicidal thoughts. A mysterious woman named Tsuta, who travels with nothing but T-shirts, appears before these three. Tsuta acts cheerfully, yet there is an aura of death about her, and she behaves as if she has known them for a long time. Eventually, the three will confront their own lives and deaths.
