International peace conference, events take place in the last week of 1899. Tragic love story between Vilma, daughter of the Austro-Hungarian envoy/ambassador, and Zoluk of Montenegro.

The police captain of a small religious town orders a painting from a young girl, a famous painter who has recently arrived in the town. However, he does not receive the finished painting because she disappears before he can deliver it. A detective from the neighbouring magistrate's office arrives to investigate the mysterious crime, and soon the handcuffs are snapped on the culprit, a lonely 17-year-old teenager known to the whole town as a fool.

The three Szelid brothers go on a road trip after the disappearance of their father and death of their mother.
