Biography
Spyros Kalogirou (Kypseli, 3 November 1922 - Athens, 27 June 2009) was a Greek theatre and film actor, best known for his villainous roles on the big screen. His trembling voice and fierce appearance were characteristic. He acted in many films, both on television and in cinema, and when he played such roles he was very convincing. He also participated in many theatrical performances but did not have many collaborations with his wife, as she was at the National Theater and he was more involved with independent theater. After the '80s they formed their own troupe, staged performances and toured. He acted in approximately two hundred plays and in all genres of theater, classical and contemporary writers, from theater of the absurd (Eugene Ionesco) to revue, but also in many of the Greek dramaturgy. He first appeared in cinema in 1955 in Dimis Dadiras’ film O agapitikos tis voskopoulas. Since then, he has participated in more than 60 films, alongside the biggest names in Greek cinema. He appeared in about 55 films, including: Athens at Night, Stefania, Machine Gun Concerto, The Fairy and the Boy, The Blonde Teacher, Maria of Silence, The Man with the Carnation, and Stakaman. However, the film that left an era was Lola, in which Spyros Kalogirou had said the unforgettable phrase "There's a lot of money, Aris", to his then co-star Nikos Kourkoulos about the "eyes" of Jenny Karezi. In 1966, at the Thessaloniki Film Festival, he was awarded an honorary distinction for his performance in the short film Jimmy the Tiger by Pantelis Voulgaris, and in 1971, the film critics awarded him the Silver Apollo for his role in the film Abuse of Power. He was honored with the Golden Head of the Vakhtangov Theater in Moscow. He also appeared in television series (Even Married People Have a Soul).

Aris, Nikos Kourkoulos, is released from prison after three years, and he turns up at Troumpa, a slum area in Piraeus. His purpose is not to settle his own accounts but to find out if Lola (Tzeni Karezi), a young woman who works at Stelios’ cabaret, was among the ones who betrayed him. Aris loves and cares about Lola and wants to get her out of there, but Stelios, who is also in love with her, assigns a thug to kill Aris.

Madalena is a tough seventeen-year-old who is forced to take on her father's ferry business after he dies. She has her many brothers and sisters to support, and there is no one else to do the job. So she rallies her defenses and sets out to give her rival in the ferry business a run for his money. But at the same time, the rival's handsome son is starting to look better and better. From a tragic misunderstanding, the farmer Stathis Karatasos (Angelos Antonopoulos) is accused as the leader of a notorious gang. He manages to escape just before getting executed and the law enforcement starts chasing him. Even the bandits are looking to find him, believing that he has the loot of the robbery in his possession. In addition, another prisoner called Tsakos (Kostas Kazakos) tries to locate him and bring him back dead or alive, in order to ensure the freedom promised to him by the police.

At first there was the theatrical adaptation, by Manolis Skouloudis, of the legendary Dreyfus Affair (an adaptation based on the novel by Emile Zola). It was then transferred to the cinema. The subject: the early 20th century and the military establishment, with the help of a money-loving and womanizing junior officer (Alekos Alexandrakis), accuses Captain Alfred Dreyfus (Dimitris Myrat) of treason, because he allegedly handed over secrets to the Germans. After a mock trial, where expediency prevailed, Dreyfus was convicted and imprisoned. However, Emile Zola firmly believes in his innocence and, through the press, fights a brave and effective battle, which will lead to the uncovering of the conspiracy and the restoration of the honor of the unjustly slandered captain.

He immediately falls in love with her, and wants to help her. Stefania is thinking about any possibility to get out from the prison. She flirts with the ugly yard guard Armandos, and with the truck driver coming with foodstuff, but in vain...
