Musa lives with his father, Beko, in rural Turkey. Beko, struggling to make ends meet by assisting in rabbit-hound races, is lured by the promise of a government disability pension for Musa if he can prove his son's “disability” with a medical report. To pass as disabled, Musa must learn to mimic the mannerisms of people with physical disabilities from Nergis, a girl his age. Together, the two children form an enduring friendship as they navigate their plight.

Hakim and Faysal have come from Mardin to Istanbul to find work and escape to Germany where their cousin lives. After a short time they make close friends with Medina and her daughter Elma, refugees from Bosnia. With the aim of finding a cure for Elma who has a heart problem, Medina disappears from sight one day suddenly.

The documentary, brought to life with the support of the residents of Kuzguncuk neighborhood in Istanbul's Üsküdar district, tells the story of the thirty-year struggle of the locals to protect the Kuzguncuk Garden, also known as "Ilya's Garden."
