Sunset Shimmer is tasked with keeping magic out of the games to avoid the appearance of impropriety while she and her friends compete against Crystal Prep’s top students led by someone with an equal amount of interest in Equestrian magic – this world’s TWILIGHT SPARKLE.
A collection of eleven animated shorts released alongside My Little Pony: Equestria Girls – Rainbow Rocks. The first eight, released as prequels in the lead-up to the film, follow individual members of the Rainbooms as they each discover the instrument that awakens their magic, from Rainbow Dash's guitar showdown with Trixie to Fluttershy calming a hamster stampede with a tambourine. The remaining three, released afterward as "encore" music videos, spotlight Sunset Shimmer, Twilight Sparkle, and Rarity in songs. Though not part of the film itself, the shorts fill in the story of how the girls' band came together.
Rainbow is looking for a new drummer for her band and realizes that Pinkie does well on the drums as she does anywhere else.
Rarity helps Fluttershy volunteer at the animal rescue center to clean the hamster habitat.
