Recounted mostly through animation to protect his identity, Amin looks back over his past as a child refugee from Afghanistan as he grapples with a secret he’s kept hidden for 20 years.

12 year-­old Adama lives in a remote village in West Africa, sheltered by the cliffs. Out beyond lies "the world of wind," the kingdom of wicked spirits hungry for war. When his elder brother Samba suddenly vanishes from the village, Adama decides to set off in search of him, crossing into a Europe in the grip of World War I.

A robber enters a small convenience shop to perform a hold-up. An old grandmother with bad eyesight is doing her shopping. Suddenly, things go horribly wrong.

A flight over the desert leads to a highway; at its center, a dazzling, yellow line. Tirelessly they paint and repaint the line.

Chesa, a young girl, can predict earthquakes. After one of them weakens her village, she leaves to seek help from her grandmother who lives as a hermit in the mountains. Along the way, she travels through a world where the tremors are multiplying. As she searches for the origins of her power, Chesa discovers that the earth is shaking because of the Dark Teeth, a landless people who feed on anthracite. Driven by their ever-increasing hunger, they dig into the earth and accelerate continental drift.
