The shadows of screams climb beyond the hills. It has happened before. But this will be the last time. The last few sense it, withdrawing deep into the forest. They cry out into the black, as the shadows pass away, into the ground.

Stuck on the peripheries of the film industry, a struggling grad student named Erik comes to the realization that his thesis film should be about a grad student named Erik coming to the realization of what his thesis film should be.

Two separate, yet poetically connected films that act as a threnody on nature. Mikel Guillen's film is dedicated to the artist, Hiroshi Sugimoto. Scott Barley's film is dedicated to the artist, Vija Celmins.

Scott Barley and Mikel Guillen’s second collaboration, The Emerald Fire is inspired by the eleven Hijabaat (veils) of Sufism, feminine divinity, ascension, and the mereology of reality and experience itself.

It’s a film about suspension. A suspension of thought.Its inspired by the disappearance of Mariam Makhniashvili who disappeared in Toronto but was found dead two years after. It’s about remembrance, the power of a suspended thought. When a loved one disappears or someone vanishes for no reason, no trace, no answer, no closure, our thoughts enter a very specific state of mind. A state that is not clearly defined. The weight, our imagination, our love, our hope become a suspension, a powerful and emotional state. This suspension becomes an Intermission.

“I Deserve” (2015) is an avant-garde film, an essay of archetypes, female archetypes in the corporate and extremely capitalist world that we live in. It was inspired by the need to be and appear “successful” and effective. The idea that the oppressed have to be overcome as an objective and their struggles and over pass the oppressor, in this case, the man. In many cases this objective has made them ultra superior beings that not only surpass the man but also have created a new breed of beings. The psychological state can be mixed with issues of repression and how architecture, spaces, structures and lighting can contribute to create specific worlds. A dialogue between Ayn Rand’s objectivism and Fassbinder’s Martha to give an example.
