The plot is based on real events described by Ivan Franko in a series of criminal reports for the newspaper "Kurjer Lwowski" in 1889. The writer used the motives of these events in the story "The Foundations of Society".

A completely true story about how a real-life Don Juan comes to a Bukovynsky border town and what happens as a result. In the center of the story is the Ukrainian maiden Marichka’s love, which takes place against the background of numerous coup d’états during the Second World War.

It is a screen adaption of the cognominal short story of Olha Kobylianska in which the struggle of the educated women with the bourgeois manners is described. Three girls from one family are very interested in the art and are going to devote a lifetime to it. But it is the beginning of the 20th century with all peculiar to that time disadvantages, and the way to the success is bestrewed with the difficulties.

Love triangle revealed during a wedding is set to a backdrop of Ukrainian history and tradition, with questions of honor and faithfulness asked.
