Biography
David Gesslbauer was born in Einsiedeln, Switzerland, in 1991, but grew up in Austria. From 2005 to 2010, he studied audiovisual media design at the HTBLVA Graz-Ortweinschule. From 2012 to 2018, Gesslbauer studied editing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. He lives in Berlin. He has been making his own short films since 2013 and is responsible for editing short films, commercials and music videos. In 2017, he worked as an editor on the feature film Antimarteria by director Specter Berlin. In 2019, Gesslbauer edited the music video for Rammstein's single Deutschland, which was also directed by Specter Berlin.

Haunted by fear and loss, Lika finds freedom in her dreams where she learns to fly. Her flights become a symbol of escape from the bombs, the terror, and the constant threat of death. When she tells her little sister about it, the four-year-old, who truly believes Lika can fly, asks softly, “Then why don’t you fly to Papa?” And so, Lika does – at least in her dreams.
If I Could Fly

In South Africa, Marteria and his friends camp outside Cape Town for his birthday, unaware that “elf dust” - the planet’s most prized drug - drives hunters to kill ivory-toothed humanoids. They cross paths with dealer-baron Bronte, whose elf dust is secretly human-sourced, entangling Marteria in a deadly trade. The film closes with a haunting message: humanity embodies both the destruction and salvation of the universe.

Displacement crisis has reached 100 million people globally. 60+ Ukrainian refugees were involved in making the film, sending a message of support to all refugees. The film focuses on the PTSD that people experience after fleeing the war.
Uprooted
Foreign Root follows a bus filled with migrants as they navigate the challenges of displacement and the uncertainty of their future. Ivan Dorn, who co-wrote and soundtracked the film, also stars as the bus driver. He leads the journey across state lines, while contending with border controls, as the passengers find solace and strength in music, shared stories, and each other. The film juxtaposes surrealist elements with a visceral portrayal of the loneliness and fear of being stateless.

A company by his loyal dog the huntsman discovers and delivers delicate honey to a shady merchant and his nefarious cat - as a single drop of the sweet nectar releasing the furies of fate.
