Recounts the experiences of a middle-class family, the Alcántaras, during the last years of the rule of Francisco Franco and the beginning of the Spanish Transition to democracy.

Colometa is an average housewife with two children to care for in the late 1930's, as the Spanish Civil War is starting and her husband goes off to fight. She had been an ordinary woman working in a shop when she met the lively carpenter who married her, and their life together was without major problems. But now she is forced to raise her children under straitened circumstances, and after her husband dies, her life undergoes another major change as she marries for the second time. Underneath Colometa's acquiescent, forebearing exterior must lie just a few discontents, a few unrealized dreams - but they never surface as she blithely moves from one episode in her life to another.

Madrid, 1980. When Sole sees Nano come in, bloody and beaten, she already knows what to do. In an improvised infirmary, she tries to mend his son’s wounds. But Nano is getting old, and his body doesn’t heal like it used to. At his mother’s pleas, Nano offers a deal: he will retire from boxing if she, for the first time, watches one of his fights.

A couple splits the assets they shared during the five years of their marriage.

Between the walls of a white room, five people live in captivity and participate in a strange game. The players pursue one goal: to achieve the promised reward of going to the outside. One of them will have the opportunity to get it.
