1927. Spain under the Primo de Rivera Dictatorship. The great actress, Margarita Xirgu and her company are about to perform "Maria Pineda" by a young Federico Garcia Lorca. The Dictatorship cannot tolerate it, but the actress, Margarita Xirgu, in the name of freedom will stand her ground.

In an acting class, some young aspiring actors follow the instructions of an influential teacher, who asks them to participate in a peculiar musical exercise. Among them is Tomàs, who confronts the professor's particular methods, while questioning himself what he is willing to do (or not do) to find the longed-for “truth”.

Judith, a nine-year-old girl disregarded by the people around her, fights her loneliness with the company of small dead animals she collects and hides in jars under the bed.
