Harry is offered a substantial commission by wealthy businessman Henry Allison for a new home and meets his daughter Alice. The couple still living apart attract new suitors, Alice for Harry and Gardner, the store’s floorwalker for Elinor. Elinor calls at Harry’s office and tells Harry that their baby will soon arrive. Harry ignores her but Gardner is still in love with Elinor, and she realizes she cares for him. Harry is injured in an accident, calls for Elinor and begs forgiveness before he dies. After her mourning period Gardner proposes to Elinor and they marry.
Little orphaned Kate lives happily in a New England lighthouse with its old keepers, Philemon, Peter and Captain Bartholomew. When Kate falls sick, the prudish Philemon hires Miss Summerville, a live-in nurse, to care for her, but is concerned about possible gossip. To alleviate the situation, each keeper and Dr. Carlyle propose to Miss Summerville, but she rejects them all. After hearing that Captain Peyton, a lighthouse inspector, is scheduled to arrive, Miss Summerville makes sudden plans to depart without explanation. At the urging of Carlyle, she agrees to stay, but tries to avoid Peyton by turning off the lighthouse beacon.
Molly Malone dances at a Coney Island sideshow to attract crowds. She loves Joe Holmquist, "The Human Submarine," as does Molly's mother Kate, the "Mystic Hindu Seeress." One day while Molly is dancing, her slipper hits the eye of an admirer who identifies himself as Chauncy Ewing. After arousing Joe's jealousy, Molly turns down Chauncy's proposal, because she still loves Joe, but when she sees Joe in a forced embrace with Kate, Molly elopes with Chauncy to his wealthy Aunt Henrietta's vacant Brooklyn home, planning to marry the next day.
Texas Ranger William Sykes, nicknamed "Captain Bonfire," leads a posse in pursuit of Mexican bandits who have hijacked a gold shipment. The lawmen arrive at the Moreno ranch, where the gang leader, known as "the Vulture," has taken refuge with his gang. After convincing the rancher and his pretty daughter Guadalupe, that the Americans are anti-Mexican marauders, the outlaws make their escape. Guadalupe intends to kill William, but she soon realizes her mistake and falls in love with him.
Set in the Northwoods of Canada, Tom Mix stars as Donald MacTavish, the newly appointed head commissioner of the Hudson's Bay Company. Among the eclectic customers is artist George Duray, whom she admires from a distance. A jealous suitor, Movros Tarkides, attacks Sylvia and she strikes him with a chair. He is later found dead and she is accused of the murder.
Paul Revere Forbes, an descendant of Paul Revere, is a teller at Cyrus Peabody's bank. He learns that Cyrus and his son, Ernest, have speculated with $35,000 of the bank's money, and the entire sum has been lost.
Wealthy Jack Stimson (Jay Belasco) falls in love with Broadway diva Velma Vrooman (Gretchen Lederer), and for her sake bankrolls the musical production in which she is currently starred. But when Velma proves to be fickle and unreliable, Jack shifts his affections to humble chorus girl Bobbie (Louise Lovely).
Larry Moore is a young amateur actor and lives at the same boarding house with Adele Lawrence, a rising young star, who has just secured the leading part in a play called "The Love Behind the Throne." Moore has been unsuccessful in his attempts to get a place and Adele sympathizes with him deeply.
Page Emlyn travels with his friend Jim Calvert to the Calvert family home. It doesn't turn out well: Calvert's fiancée breaks up with him and he later falls off a cliff to his death. His friend Emlyn was with him but was so drunk he doesn't remember anything that happened that night, and before long Emlyn is accused of pushing his friend off the cliff and tried for the murder.
Crump's Colossal Combined Carnival Show barely survives financially by hiring thieves and pickpockets to rob customers. One day, clubman Jack Hamilton buys the circus when his car breaks down on his way to meet a deadline to avoid bankruptcy and he needs the circus tractor to haul his auto out of a ditch. Hamilton leads the circus to financial success and falls in love with Gypsy, the ticket-taker. To convince Jack to marry Gypsy, her supposed mother, fortune-teller Carlotta, says that she was kidnapped as a baby and shows Jack a photo in which he recognizes Gypsy's mother as the wife of Andrew Pomeroy, the financier who ruined him.
Nita is the popular dancer in a French circus. The strong man, Max, is her guardian and lends her to an interested artist, James Blackthorne, who promises to educate her for three years, then return her to Max. Nita is in love with one of the performers, Pierre. After three years Max calls for her at the convent, but Nita is afraid of him and runs away. Blackthorne asks his fiancé to give her a home, but Nita overhears a conversation about herself and fears she is not wanted. When Pierre calls to take her back to the circus, she goes. Blackthorne misses her and starts out on a search. Max treats them both brutally, and is so jealous of Pierre that he lets him fall during an acrobatic feat. Pierre is injured, but recovers with Nita at his side. Blackthorne finds her and offers her a home again, but she says she will never leave Pierre. —Moving Picture World, November 25, 1922
The Riggs family, newly wealthy from Oklahoma oil, move to an estate in Ossining, New York, adjoining that of eligible bachelor Stephen Van Courtlandt, who wants to avoid marriage. Mrs. Riggs, anxious to break into society, wants her daughter Barbara to marry Stephen.
Alaire Austin runs a cattle ranch along the Texas-Mexican border with her corrupt husband Ed. After Texas ranger Dave Law saves her from dying of thirst in the desert, the two fall in love. Mexican bandit Longorio, who longs to possess the beautiful Alaire, orders his men to kill her husband and take control of the ranch. The bandit captures Alaire and forces an old priest to marry them, but before the ceremony can be performed, Dave arrives and secretly marries her himself. The couple escapes and seeks refuge in a little house just inside the Mexican border, but Longorio's men pursue them and set the building on fire. Just in time, a force of United States cavalrymen arrives and conducts the couple across the Rio Grande to safety.
