The film is based on a legendary school film of Tomáš Vorel, called INg (1985). The storyline stays the same - a young engineer finds a new job and wants to work, this proves to be impossible in the last days of the communist era.
The protagonists are the same, only five years older: Kocourek Kolman, mother Kocourková, mother Kolmanová and father Kolman. Kocourek applies to study graphic design at the UMPRUM. He has not been accepted twice because there is a great interest in studying at this university, only a select few are accepted. Mother Kocourková has long given up on the dream that her son will study something proper and that she will ever understand him, and so she increasingly talks to herself with a bottle of vodka. Kolman, meanwhile, is studying in his second year at the University of Economics. But instead of lectures and seminars, he is only interested in his classmates. He packs one after another. He solves his exams and credits by fraud or bribery. Kocourek, on the other hand, is conscientious and hardworking and falls head over heels in love with the enchanting Júlia, who is also applying to the UMPRUM.
Honza Marak has long since abandoned a career in IT and has bought a cottage on the outskirts of a small village, where he’s settled in with his wife Marketa, daughter Anyna and son Sayen. He works in the woods as a forest labourer repairing roads and enclosures, cutting wood to sell and assisting the foresters. Marketa earns a living as a masseuse and alternative healer, making use of various mind-altering plants and mushrooms, which leads to conflict with the old inhabitants and eventually with drug enforcement. Daughter Anyna attends a distant school where her grades deteriorate as she wanders the woods learning from nature rather than from her textbooks.

The story of František Stára, a recovering alcoholic, concertmaster, and composer. At the most difficult moment, when František's private hopes and professional plans are collapsing and he resigns, he is selflessly helped by his former fellow patient from the clinic, Eda Mandík. This man, himself weak, inconsistent, and irresponsible, with unexpected and self-destructive devotion, gives up his own personal happiness and energetically spurs his flagging will to save his only friend. The price Eda pays for this act is not small, but his sacrifice was meaningful.
