Biography
Dobrica Ćosić (1921–2014) was a Yugoslav and Serbian politician and writer. He was twice awarded the prestigious NIN award for literature and Medal of Pushkin for his writing. His books have been translated into 30 languages. He was the first President of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia with his tenure lasting from 1992 to 1993. Ćosić joined the communist youth organization in Negotin in 1939. When the Second World War reached Yugoslavia in 1941, he joined Tito's Partisans. After the liberation in 1944, he remained active in leadership positions. Ćosić wrote his first and most popular novel Daleko je sunce (The Sun is Far Away) in 1951. The novel was an instant success andlaunched his literary career. His second novel, Koreni (Roots, 1954), chronicles the establishment of Serbian independence from the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. In 1956 he found himself in Budapest during the Hungarian revolt; parts of his memories and thoughts on the circumstances were later published under the name Seven Days in Budapest. Tracing characters introduced in Koreni, between 1972 and 1979 Ćosić produced the four-volume World War I epic Vreme smrti (A Time of Death).
Known For
The WWI is the focus of the tetralogy novel "Time of Death". It paints a broad picture of time, events, and human fates. Other than members of the Katic family, many historical individuals are among the primary heroes.
Time of Death
The story of fictional Katić family. Vukašin returns home from the studies in France to tell his father Aćim and brother Đorđe that he plans to marry the daughter of his father's political opponent and enemy. Aćim threatens to wipe him out from the will and intricate family relations come to light. Đorđe and his wife have problems, because after 15 years of marriage they still have no children.

Bogdan Dragović has returned from emigration, trying, for the sake of his son Vladimir, to re-establish ties with the Communist Party from which he was expelled as a Trotskyist.
Time of Evil
Down under the constant attacks of the German and Bulgarian forces, headquarters one of the partisan detachment in the midst of a severe winter and snow and difficult terrain, with many wounded, he decided to leave the mountain Jastrebac. Gvozden, a peasant from that area, brave warrior, opposes such a decision, was gets ready to leave the unit before detachment. In the interests of discipline, however, Gvozden was convicted and executed on the spot, although it regrets the whole squad.
The Sun Is Far Away
A filmed theatre play based on Dobrica Cosic novel "Time of Death". It tells the story of Serbian army during Kolubara battle in 1914.
