Eleven comedic vignettes featuring conversations – some important, some less so – held in restaurants over coffee and cigarettes (how quickly time flies – cigarettes are banned in Russia’s restaurants now). The conversations are candid, and even veer into the territory of murder. In the final credits, the director apologizes to Jim Jarmusch, whose work (in the anthology Coffee and Cigarettes, which Jarmusch shot in pieces over many years) Oldenburg-Svintsov is clearly indebted to. Sex, Coffee, Cigarettes’s kinship with Jarmusch’s film extends to the fact that superstars play tiny roles in almost all of the vignettes.
Graduates of the psychology faculty Vika, Tanya and Alina know firsthand what "cognitive helplessness", "impostor syndrome" and "demon of jealousy" are. However, after meeting ten years later, the girls realize that Freud and other luminaries of psychology do not save their personal lives. Alina starts fleeting affairs, Vika has become a tyrant in her own family, and Tanya has acquired a baggage of complexes. The friends got close again to help each other with professional advice when the diagnosis should be made not to the patient, but to herself.
Moscow, early 20th century: Stray dog Samson, fleeing from animal catchers, finds himself in the Bolshoy Theater, where he meets charming Margot, a pet of prima ballerina Anastasia. The plot thickens as the unique tiara that belonged to the Queen of Great Britain and that Anastasia has to wear in the fourth act, is stolen from the dressing room. Without the tiara, the show cannot go on, so Margot and Samson have to save the day to the sounds of the great Georges Bizet.
The life of the hereditary diplomat Pyotr Andreyevich Luchnikov is a cycle of events. But he is mainly busy not with establishing international relations and working in the Foreign Ministry, but with sorting out relations and fulfilling the desires of the numerous women who surround him. The trouble-free Luchnikov rushes between wives, former and current, mother, mistresses in several countries, children, grandchildren and an endless number of unfamiliar beauties. Having completely perverted himself, Luchnikov decides to start life from scratch. The last straw for him is the arrival of a new employee - a young and lively girl Inga with a stutter, a difficult character and a father who is Luchnikov's sworn enemy.
Geologist Vika and geophysicist Andrey are former lovers, whose emotional wound from the breakup is still fresh. But things get complicated: some real inmates are left behind, and prison’s guards are desperately trying to hide the secret diamond mining business they handle together with the convicts.
