Based on the eponymous novel by Ladislav Ballek. An aging man wanders through a familiar rural landscape, triggering memories of his blond-boyhood in a small town. As he recalls everyday lives, adventures, and background events - war’s end, shifting borders, loyalties - the boundary between real and imagined blurs.

A young man named Milan arrives at the zoo, having decided to study veterinary medicine. He meets his older colleague Kalman, a tough and cruel zookeeper who despotically controls not only the animals but also the people around him. From that moment on, their paths in life constantly cross, and the tension between them grows, also due to their shared interest in the same woman.

This film is a psychological study of a woman who chooses solitude as an escape from the duplicity and emotional barrenness of the men around her.
