Chong has been dedicating to run the Hotel Esquire for more than thirty years. Business is booming. However, a double room rented by a newly married couple is said to be haunted. Business thus declines sharply. Chong employs a private detective to look into the matter first, and then a taoist to play exorcism. But nothing has changed. One day, Chong and a tenant see a woman in weird dressing go into the room. They then plot to catch the backstage manipulator of this haunting event.

Mimi asks handsome Chan Chi to drive her home one night, when she is short of money. They meet several more times at the restaurant, and Chan Chi eventually asks her around to his place for supper. She doesn't turn up, so he goes out to a swingers party with his publisher. He is shocked to find Mimi there, as the escort of a playboy. In a confused confrontation afterwards, Mimi decides she is not good enough for Chan Chi, and she vanishes. Chan Chi decides he really loves her, and commences the search.

A female extra-terrestrial (Chen Chen) appears on earth - in Hong Kong - to warn humankind of an impending catastrophe, but is arrested and institutionalised. She becomes trapped in a media circus, paraded as a freak. Exhausted and exasperated, the girl vanishes; a UFO is seen disappearing into the night sky.

The plot follows a group of women who struggle in Hong Kong, most of them illegal immigrants from mainland China.
