Later, Tiare awaits her husband's return from a hunting trip with a gun and fires as a man enters, only to discover that it is Captain Croft, who was saved from drowning. Quaigg finds them together and releases the leopard. However, the beast kills its master before being shot by Croft. Afterward, Tiare and Croft return to the South Seas together.

A disgraced alcoholic surgeon settles in a small village in the Swiss Alps. He falls for Hilda, a servant at the hotel where he lives. He tricks her into marrying him by making her think her lover, Ruffo, has abandoned her. Things don't go quite as planned, however, when Ruffo returns.

Hardy ranch owner Delia Jamieson hires John Trent as her foreman after he befriends her niece Martha. Jeff Carey, jealous of Trent's friendship with Martha, plants some stolen gold in his room and reveals this act to Delia, who visits Trent privately. Trent tries to tell Delia of his love for Martha, but she misunderstands him, thinking he is in love with her. When Delia does understand, however, she sends Martha away and orders the boys to whip Trent. She repents in time, sacrificing herself for her niece's happiness.

To spite her fiancé, who claims to know how to handle women, Rosamond engages in reckless behavior, including racing cars and getting arrested. Climax: After surviving a car crash, she is captured by criminals but eventually rescued, leading to her submissive reform.
