There’s a place where kids are kids, and the problems don’t have easy answers. A place where people lead real lives. A place called Northwood. Northwood follows the lives and loves of the teenagers who hang out in this middle class, ethnically diverse metropolitan suburb. Premiering in March 1991, and originally slated to air as a limited-run six-part series, high ratings for these six episodes garnered a full-series order, with the second season premiering in September of that same year. The series was created and produced by Nick Orchard.

On the run from a U.S. Senate investigation, New York mob boss Don Luciano flees to his Canadian hometown and old flame Dolores in this kooky, disorganized crime caper. Luciano soon discovers his long-lost son and tries to teach him the tricks of the trade. Meanwhile, Luciano's bumbling right-hand man -- who'd like to become the boss himself -- has put a contract on Luciano.

At the height of the October Revolution during the 1919 allied intervention in Arkhangelsk, the exploits of one-legged Canadian soldier Lt. John Boles are told, after he is taken in from the cold by a dysfunctional Russian family and mistakes a local woman for his presumed dead lover.

While their mother is dying in the modern Gimli, Manitoba hospital, two young children are told an important tale by their Icelandic grandmother about Einar the lonely, his friend Gunnar, and the angelic Snjofrieder in a Gimli of old.

A reclusive seeker-of-immortality scientifically keeps his body youthful, but is not able to control the devastating effects of aging on his mind. He wanders about his creaky estate; quoting scripture, taking mind-altering drugs, engaging in bizarre rituals and vaguely interacting with his dysfunctional family...until, of course, the inevitable blood-soaked climax.

Mike is released from a mental institution and finds himself in a filthy room and board where dreams and reality are one. A moving depiction of mental illness and a scathing indictment of the impersonal health care system.

On the hot and dusty prairies stands the Oasis Bar & Grill. Within, Joe 90, a crop insurance claims adjuster, is quickly persuaded by the annoying paranoid Dick Rotundo to conspire in a false insurance claim. They almost close the deal when Dick's uncontrollable paranoia forces him to run into a burning field. Believing Dick is dead, Joe 90 is left to face his supervisor without a claimant. He avoids her for fear of being caught in the process of a false claim. Much to his surprise, Joe 90 discovers that Dick is alive. The two conspirators can now complete the fraudulent claim. This time Dick cannot free himself from the guilt and his fate blows in the wind. He helplessly watches as Joe offers him a place in a corrupt future.
