Biography

Sabitri Chatterjee (born February 21, 1937) is an Indian actress who is well known for her work in Bengali theatre and cinema. Her career spans more than 60 years. She is the recipient of BFJA Awards for two times. In 1999, she was conferred with Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Acting in Bengali theatre. In 1952, she appeared in the Uttam Kumar starrer family drama Basu Poribar (1952), directed by Nirmal Dey.

Purna da loves him but also hates his naughty ways. Meanwhile a Brahmin high class family residing in the same village too is plagued by problems of their own. One of the two sons of the family does not like earning a livelihood simply by performing prayers around. He does not learn his scriptures well or anything expected from a Brahmin boy. His family falls in trouble often and is considered the laughing stock for this.
