Europe in second half of 16th century was very rough place to live. Peasants of Slovenia and Croatia had even rougher times because of the constant threat of Turk raids and being taxed to death in order to provide defence against the Turks. But, the worst things were arrogant local feudal lords led by Franjo Tahi who were oppresing the common folk. All that led to the great peasant revolt of 1573. The movie is made for the 400th anniversary of the event.

In modern-day Macedonia, an East Indian gypsy Taip (Miki Manojlovic) becomes friends with UN peacekeeper Riju and introduces him to his life of squalor. When Taip's mother dies, he collects government money for the funeral -- but then she comes back to life.

One night a grandmother accidentally stays locked in a department store. The path from fear to pleasure due to the new situation changes the grandmother as a person.

The film reflects the life of the Macedonian emigrants and migrant workers in Australia. With their going away in far away countries and living abroad, some of them have succeed in socializing, but there are still some of them who always remain with the dilemma of returning in their native country. Through their personal retellings and the metaphor description of their whole way of living in the new surroundings, expressed in a mosaical cinemathographic way, one could get known with the hard work of the Macedonian emigrants; also, the education of their children, as well as the holly celebrations in the church, such as the baptizing, the weddings, but even the funerals either, as unavoidable part of human living.

The film is a combination of animation and live-action sequences. In both parts, the connecting thread is the knock on the door. It is a story about a man who finds himself in various situations during his life, even being shot, and after each of those situations, he hears a knock on the door and when he opens it, there is a man in front of it who hits him on the head. That is the animated part, which has 32 frames. The live-action part is made up of 18 frames, divided into two sequences. In the first sequence, the animator makes the cartoon he has already seen, hears a knock on the door and when he opens it, he is also hit on the head by a man. In the second sequence, a woman makes a collection of photographs showing the animator in various situations, and suddenly hears a knock on the door. The dilemma arises whether to open the door?

The work related to the liquidation of the ‘Bogoslovec’ asbestos mine, in the village of Bogoslovec, has been entrusted to a man who has been doing the job for seventeen years. The mine's facilities and the crumbling machinery themselves speak for the absurdity of the entire procedure.

The first concert of the Balkan Philharmonic was held in June 2000 in Skopje. This event metaphorically reunited the Balkan countries. This event was the inspiration and motivation for the making of “Joy of Life”. But the film goes much deeper, through the personal intimate stories of several musicians, representing the environment, painting a picture of the Balkans.

When things seemed to be slipping away from human control, offering offerings and sacrifices were the only hope for a successful harvest and, ultimately, survival. The film reconstructs a time when life revolved around the seasons and, with the help of the memories of the oldest, the author transposes long-forgotten customs.
