The last drop for Jan's resolution is the voluntary death of his father-in-law, whose strength and patience ran dry. Grandma made decisions about Grandpa's life, old age as well as the funeral. Jan is sure that he and his wife Olga are on the same route. He recalls his past life when he used to have his own will and dreams and he wants to live again with dignity and freedom. He longs to control his own life again. And his solution is escape from the present life. In this movie we watch, in parallel ,the fates of Jan's married daughters Olinka and Alenka and his sons-in-law Erik and Pepík.

Loosely inspired by a real criminal court case. It took place in Prague and the Tatra Mountains between 1926 and 1928 and was later described as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, cases the pre-Munich Republic had ever seen. Nevertheless, the police and judiciary at the time failed to clarify and close the case in such a way that it would not raise legitimate questions long after the trial had ended. Little Péťa visits his grandfather in the Krkonoše Mountains, where a swarm of bees settles on a tree. When Péťa disturbs it, the entire swarm attacks him, leaving him in a deep coma. Ordinary treatments fail, so Dr. Vrba insists on a beekeeper’s blood transfusion. Grandpa’s blood type doesn’t match, prompting a frantic search—ambulances, authorities, even foreign donors—to find a suitable beekeeper. After multiple transfusions from various volunteers, Péťa shows signs of recovery. With dawn breaking, hope returns as he awakens.

Three "miniatures" touching on romantic relationships between men and women from different perspectives. Matěj, a young vegetable garden guard and lover of idleness and village women, spends the night in the grass with Agáta, the wife of a switchman, even though he is not particularly interested in the unsatisfied woman. Voloďa, a young man growing up without a father, is confused about his feelings for the married thirty-year-old Míša, who seduces him on a whim and then rejects him. The hunter with a "free spirit" refuses to spend even a single day with his unhappy village wife, whom the mayor (who first got him drunk) married him to years ago out of envy for his shooting skills.

In 1947 by the Beskid mountains, the traces of war still linger, destroyed tanks dispersed throughout the farmland creating an eerie backdrop. This film follows a ten-year-old boy and the strange visions he encounters, his world of fantasy exacerbated with ample time, space, and a lack of companionship or guidance. We see the adults that influence and dominate his life, for better or for worse. Surreal and packed with an excellent study of human emotions and motivations compounded by their rural, isolated vacuum of a town, this is a timeless and severely underrated film from a brilliant Czech director.

Captain Vašátko of the criminal police and Horác, a painter, bohemian, and amateur detective, are searching for the murderer of Daniela Jásková, an emancipated young woman who excelled at her job and also excelled at changing lovers. When she is found strangled in her apartment, Vašátko's team begins an investigation. They also focus on the victim's sister, Alena Kášová, who did not like Daniela very much and resented her ability to win over every man. Suspicion also falls on Alena's ex-husband, the sculptor Káš, whom Horác has known since his studies at the academy.

Adolescence is always a difficult time; it is doubly so for Gábina. For one thing, she is growing up in the normalization years of the 1970s, and then she also has to face the reality that her father is a well-known actor disavowed by the regime. Although he abandoned the family years before, his existence casts an ominous shadow over the lives of not only Gábina, but also her older sister and mother, who are trying to find a civilized way through the social mire of the times.

Sudetenland, May 1945. A group of retreating German soldiers capture a group of young female workers, totally deployed in a chemical factory. He wants to use them as hostages during his advance to the American demarcation line. Together with them, they take refuge in a nearby castle, which soon becomes the site of the last battle that takes place both in the minds and in the backdrop of war-torn Czechoslovakia, shortly before liberation. A psychological probe as well as an intimate drama set within the walls of a small castle, it is a mosaic of mini-stories charting the fates, attitudes and thought processes of individual characters on both sides of the barricade.
