Valérie, the fry cook, is at the heart of the film. Carrying on a fairground tradition that spans several generations, she is much more than just a fry cook: she is a kind of neighborhood psychologist, who listens and talks to everyone. At the Mercier fry shop, people open up modestly, sometimes complaining, sometimes confessing, almost always with humor. She is the one who brings this out in them...

The documentary reveals life in and around a "fritures" kiosk, a shop in danger of extinction. Following Valerie, the kiosk's owner, Poutte portrays a warm side of Belgian society, which sets aside nationalities and social and educational differences around a plate of French fries and Valerie's friendly, motherly conversation.
