Biography
Vasily Zhuravlyov was a Soviet film director and screenwriter, recognized for his contributions to early Soviet science fiction cinema. His most notable work, Cosmic Journey (1936), is considered a pioneering film in the science fiction genre, depicting a manned mission to the moon. Zhuravlyov's innovative use of special effects and scientific consultation set a precedent for future science fiction films in Soviet cinema.

Cosmic Journey

Spring of 1917. Soldiers of the former Wild Division are returning to their villages. Anzor, a footman of Prince Naurbek, commander of the Kabarda regiment, finds poverty and ruin at home - his mother and many other villagers have fallen into bondage debts to Princess Zhansurat. Anzor goes to the prince and asks him to return his land - after all, he shielded Naurbek from enemy bullets in battle. Having received a handful of millet, Anzor returns to his place. Subsequent meetings with the Bolsheviks Kantemir and Mashuko, and then with Kirov himself, convince Anzor of the necessity to fight against the princes.

In the fall of 1920, when the Red Army fought on the outskirts of Novorossiysk, one of the best ships of the Russian fleet “Oryol” stood at the berths of the port. The ship's boatswain, the hiding communist Mikhail Gruzdev, convinced Captain Chistyakov to keep the Eagle and return it to the red flag. Soon the legendary ship aboard the White Guards pursued by the Red Army left Novorossiysk. History left no trace of the further fate of the "Eagle" and its crew. It was believed that Chistyakov handed over the ship to the White Guards, and they took him abroad. Many years later, the captain of the ship “Flounder” Mikhail Gruzdev, confident in Chistyakov’s uncompromising attitude, obtained permission - and set about searching for the missing ship.
