The year 2023 marks the 35th anniversary of the association La Mujer y el Cine, and 43 female directors have come together to deliver a fragment of their gaze, a frame, an aesthetic and ethical decision, a tribute to women who anticipated the struggle. A leap into the void made by women filmmakers of different ages and backgrounds. United, in a sort of electronic loom, as an offering and a legacy in which a moment in the history of Argentine cinema is told, where we were all one, with our eyes on the past, our gaze on the present and the horizon full of the future.

Tie Your Plow to a Star
5.5

In 1997 the Argentine filmmaker Fernando Birri returned to his home country to film a documentary on the 30th anniversary of the death of Che Guevara and the relevance of utopias at that time. Carmen Guarini decided to record those moments. A rough edit of this film was hidden away on a fragile VHS tape for twenty years. Today, these images come to life and shed some light on the life of this Latin American poet and master filmmaker, who, at the age of 92, still refused to give up on his own utopias.

Between March and October 2000, millions of people around the world took to the streets to denounce poverty and violence against women. The historic World March of Women was a bold initiative of the Québec Federation of Women and represented a turning point in global solidarity. Director Sophie Bissonnette invited five filmmakers from around the world to cover the march. She also asked each one to film an innovative project. Set against the backdrop of a song, 'A Score for Women's Voices' ends at the UN, where women deliver 5 million cards signed during the marches. Their goal? To change the world.

Yo sor Alice
7.5

In December 1977, two French nuns, Alice Domon and Léonie Duquet, were kidnapped in Buenos Aires by a squad of commandos from the Argentinean Navy. They were held and tortured at the ESMA - the School of Naval Engineering and were never seen again. Moving tale based on letters Alice Domon sent to her family and friends back home as well as on the testimony of many friends in Argentina who remember her humanity and courage. She shared the lives of those in need, helped heeling their sick and bringing in their crops. And she raised their political awareness - which brought her to the attention of the regime. A film retracing recent history that is by no means in the past.

Miriam is now settled in Israel, with a rebuilt life, a family, and the opportunity to slowly build her entire life. Belonging to a traditional Jewish family, Miriam joined the armed guerrilla movement in the 1970s. Shortly before the last dictatorship was established in Argentina, she was captured and imprisoned. In an attempt to save her life, she expressed remorse at a controversial press conference surrounding the coup d'état. Although she managed to escape death, Miriam became a hinge fraught with mistrust: for those who had been her companion, she was now a traitor, and, in her forced exile, she was left with no one to turn to and her only option was to start over.

Gorri
N/A

The story of this film begins at the moment when the artist and his work become independent forever. Gorriarena dies and his work begins an existence where the author is not there to explain it, replace it or modify it. The mounting of an exhibition is the excuse to explore both material and ideological decisions that coexist in the work of an artist. The film explores some of these decisions and their results, trying to show which gestures of love, trust, order, admiration or greed it arouses, and in the process tries to find the painter's way and perhaps, only perhaps, to get closer to his truth. A truth that is expressed through colour, critical and biting realism, ironic denunciation and energetic resistance to being "accused" of being a political and social painter.
