Dunav Kuzmanich Salinas (4 July 1935 – 9 August 2008) was a Chilean filmmaker, screenwriter, and writer based in Colombia. His discreet way of life, almost in anonymity, coupled with the censorship his work faced, led him to become a cult director and one of the most important figures in Colombian cinema.

Four men and two women illegaly board a cargo ship from Buenaventura, Colombia to New York. All their dreams and frustrations confronts them while they attempt not to be discovered by the ship crew. They all seek the "American Dream".

A peasant without money or work, sells his soul to "El Garrudo" in order to get wealth and marry the young and beautiful Petita. Years later, Juan Maula and "El Garrudo" debate in a duel of "payas" (a singing and composing competition) , where the peasant's soul and his freedom will be the prize.

The murder of popular leader Jorge Eliécer Gaitán unleashes violence in the Colombian countryside. Guerrillas are formed that, behind the facade of partisan struggle, also fight for control of the land. Canaguaro commands one of these groups. Their story is the same as that of thousands of Colombians, survivors of attacks on their families. We learn about his life and that of his friends through the journey in search of weapons that the party has promised them and that will never be delivered to them. They are called to order and reconciliation and, finally, murdered.
