Centered around typical Japanese food, a solitary salesman travelling through the country for business purposes, eats at its various establishments and experiences the various delicacies of Japanese cuisine.
"Tsubaki Sanjuro" is a remake of Sanjuro (1962) by Akira Kurosawa. Sanjuro returns with sharper, faster, subtler sword, talking and perception. He uses them to settle the trouble and uses them good!

A pair of men are picking and repeatedly enter houses here and there to steal. One day, while ransacking the house they have been picking, they find the girl who lives in the house collapsed in the bathroom. She is a college student who has been hurt by a love like a game that is about to end. When she gets up and sees the two thieves, she says, "You came to save me, didn't you? Will you stay with me forever?" For some reason, she interprets this favorably and trusts them. From that point on, a strange interaction between the three begins.
Kakeru, a former elite runner at high school, is chased for stealing food. He is saved by a Kansei University student Haiji, who is also a runner. Haiji persuades Kakeru to live in the old dormitory "Chikusei-so" where he plans to team up with fellow residents to enter the Hakone Ekiden relay marathon, one of the most prominent university races in Japan. Kakeru soon finds out that all of the residents except for Haiji and himself are complete novices.
