Roller Derby Girl is 1949 short documentary directed by Justin Herman about how mid-twentieth century women made advances and careers in roller derby. The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Subject, One-Reel.

Scott Elliott, a discharged WWII Navy officer and a film executive in civilian life, passes through a small Arkansas town, and meets Bob Burns, a farmer, and his daughter. As a film executive prior to the war, Elliott always had the thought that he could make animals talk on the screen, and when he tells this to Bob, he heartily agrees. They form a partnership whereby Elliott will handle the technical aspects, and Bob will write the dialogue for the talking animals. They go to Hollywood, where they start work on the film with the financial help of a producer. However, when half of the scenes are completed, they run the scenes for the producer, who walks out and refuses to put any more money in the project.

He visits a henhouse and swipes some eggs, the farmer organizes a hunt with his dogs and the raccoon is treed by the pack of hounds. But he manages to escape. Originally released on February 14,1947 and reissued on October 2, 1953.

The film follows three bear cubs are observed exploring the forests of the Sierra Nevadas, encountering other wildlife, and invading the kitchen of a local ranch house. It won an Oscar at the 12th Academy Awards in 1940 for Best Short Subject (One-Reel). Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in partnership with UCLA Film & Television Archive in 2013.
