Yawata was born in Hyogo Prefecture. She is an advertising video director and film director. Her short film, "audio erotica" (2011), was screened at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival and various other festivals in Japan and abroad.
