Young married couple, Martti and Ulla, are spending a carefree weekend at their Rauhanlehto villa. Their peace is disrupted when the in-laws and Ulla's sister Alli, come to visit.

Unemployed girl shoplifts in department store. Son of a wealthy family notice the shoplifting but won't turn her in. After awhile they are seen together and press thinks they are engaged.

Armas, a somewhat frivolous painter, arrives in the outer archipelago with his friend and falls in love with Annikki, the fiancée of a young pilot named Eero. A stormy night brings a resolution to the love triangle.

Jaakkola, a priest with a bad memory, gets a prescription for a spa day from Dr. Viljo. Ruustinna plans to bring her daughter Elina and the local doctor together. Jaakkola finds the mail he forgot in his pocket, including an important wedding invitation. Rovasti and Ruustinna plan to stop at the wedding on the way to the spa, but things get complicated and there are enough misunderstandings in the knots of love.

The mayor's son Mauritz Fristedt, has become deeply in love with the baker's daughter Dunungen. The mayor applauds the engagement because Mauritz will to try to foist a pack of worthless shares from his uncle to his father-in-law.

Arvid falls in love with cabaret singer Lussie and, much to his mother's dismay, marries this adventurous woman. Soon after the wedding, Lussie begins an affair with Russian lieutenant Arnold, which ultimately leads to tragic events.
