In Gossette (1923), Dulac experimented with and designed a number of special lenses and prisms to produce a variety of effects and multiply the expressive means which translate the characters' visions and mental states. She also reversed class and gender roles, as she made the female character Gossette come to the aid of Phillipe de Savières, falsely accused of murder, in order to save his name.

Two young doctors, surprised by the storm, take refuge in an inn. A diamond broker joins them and, for lack of space, shares their room. At dawn he is found dead. A few years later justice is done.

The Man Who Sold His Soul to the Devil
Germain, a widower with two children, is thinking of remarrying for them. He leaves for the neighboring village, taking little Marie with him, who will work as a maid. He is to meet the widow Guérin, a nice catch. The little caravan wanders around the devil's pond. Seeing Marie's interest in the children, Germain decides to marry her.
