The story Peter is telling the about a special summer, when he is invited over to summer holiday from bickering parents, to his aunt and uncle in the country. He's been there before, but this summer was quite one to remember.

A young man returns home from college during a holiday break to visit his widowed mother. Along the way he meets an attractive woman and they hit it off so well during his return trip that she accepts an invitation from him to stay at his Mother's house during his stay. But his Mother is not pleased with this surprise as she has rather strong feelings for her own son and desires to keep him all for herself.

Ten years have passed since our three heroines' first outing in 1975. Now the women meet at yet another class reunion. Not surprisingly, they are still unwilling to call it a night after the party is over. Husbands and children must celebrate Christmas as best they can, while the women spend quality time drinking and taking stock of their lives.

Allan and Lisa flee the war-torn city of Sweetwater with their young son for the safety of the municipal dump in this sleepy war drama. They join other displaced survivors who were driven from their homes, looking for a better life on the outskirts of Sweetwater.

Miss Maud, an orphan, has grown up in a boarding house, raised by the conservative matron Mrs Frank. In her suppressed desires and love for Mr Eldmann, Miss Maud creates an imaginary world where love is greater than life. Perhaps even greater than death itself …

Following political upheaval, traditionally poor countries have stopped exporting raw materials. The Western world is entering an economic crisis, which is rapidly spreading to Norway. Unemployment rises sharply, and it becomes more difficult to obtain food. The government does not officially acknowledge the crisis, but fear spreads among the population. Demonstrations between the population and the police are now a daily occurrence. Thomas and Vera are also unemployed. The only way out of their predicament is to move out of the city and rent an abandoned farm. The sale of food is banned. Military forces arrive to confiscate what little they have. Later, the city population follows, traveling to the countryside in panic to secure something to eat.
