Mirko, bored with his extravagant life, decides to spend his vacation alone, far from the company of his Prague friends. He even makes a bet with a friend that he will go a month without any funds, luxuries, a car and...without a kiss.
Irča Miňovská, the daughter of a car factory director, meets mechanic Lexa Hora by chance. They fall in love, but Irča's father does not want his daughter's unequal relationship and decides to send Irča to a boarding school so that she cannot see Lexa. Lexa leaves the plans for her new engine with her boyfriend Harry Peters at the factory, resigns, and leaves to forget about Irča. Director Miňovský would like to produce a new type of engine, but Lexa is nowhere to be found...

Instead of working, young typists are busy showing off their purchases to each other. When they don't respond to the clerk's bell, a superior comes into their office. The girls scatter to their typewriters. Only the boldest of them explains that they are getting ready for a ball and have therefore bought new shoes. The clerk remembers that he used to dance when he was young, and the girl asks him to dance. However, the man soon runs out of breath. The film ends with a display of dance shoes by the Baťa company.

Vlasta Burian appears in a town of Czarist Russia impersonating an Inspector General, and he is entertained lavishly by the local political-hacks and peasants seeking his favor for whatever they are advocating or need fixed. Burain is involved in a series of comical situations as he takes everything he can gets his hands on while the peasants, who must plead for the betterment of their conditions, are left on the outside-looking-in. He makes his escape just as the real Inspector General is set to appear, but those-in-need will be no better off when the real McCoy shows up then they were with Burian.
Summer 1916. A transport of Russian prisoners of war passes through Brno. The health of Russian officer Ryepkin deteriorates so much that he is taken to an Austrian military hospital. He almost dies and needs a transfusion. The German nurse Mathilda is the only one with the same blood type. Tommy Fikejs and Ferda Říha, two perpetual students, are completely broke. They are up to their necks in debt, their landlady is kicking them out, and there is no hope of securing another loan. Tommy does have a wealthy uncle—an automotive tycoon—but the man refuses to be "touched" for money, whether by persuasion or coercion, despite Tommy bombarding him with pleading letters.

Boženka is the daughter of Narcis Straka, a man with a mysterious past. However, Herold's father-in-law Jakub Suldovský recognizes him as an old friend from Vienna, where they both loved the same woman....
