Ilona, the bored wife of an easily distracted professor, falls in love with his friend Tibor, a world-traveler and ladykiller. Although she pursues him, he declines to take advantage of the situation, because she's married to his best friend. Only after her husband shows an interest in a co-worker is it possible for a happy ending to take place for the two new couples.

Believing his lost honour makes him unworthy Tellheim breaks his engagement to Minna von Barnhelm, but she tracks him down to a Berlin tavern to win him back. To test his love Minna pretends she has also lost her wealth, prompting Tellheim’s protective instincts to finally override his stubborn pride. The film concludes with a royal decree from Frederick the Great, restoring Tellheim's rank and fortune and allowing the couple to marry.

In an imaginary Scandinavian country, an ambitious radical buys an indebted estate in order to become a member of parliament as a local resident, which he ultimately succeeds in doing. Salvation in the party turmoil comes in the form of a military dictatorship under the determined Governor General Werkonen. The new member of parliament arranges for an assassination attempt on the general. However, the general is only slightly injured in the attack. The hired assassin now feels betrayed by his client and takes revenge by murdering him...

Maria Kelemen is a secretary in the office of a bank in Budapest. Her boss, director Borden, courts her, albeit she is engaged to Paul (about which she has remained silent). On the day of the wedding, Paul becomes unemployed and takes on the role of a house-husband. During a visit at Borden’s, Maria introduces Paul as her brother, which incites raging jealousy in the latter.

The stand-alone opera singer Carmen Casini dare not admit to her adult son, the spoiled race car driver Cecil, that she ruined her voice on a stormy day at the racetrack and that her career is thus at an end. Meanwhile, Cecil has fallen in love with the pretty Colette … without suspecting that her father, the wealthy Bartell, was a former lover of his mother and that he’s Cecil’s daddy. Thus, both Carmen and Bartell try to prevent the unfolding love-relationship between brother and sister, because this ain’t the Ozarks, you know! Only after the unhappy Cecil tries to commit suicide after an argument with his mother do Carmen and Bartell realize they still love one another. Suicide attempt be damned; let’s go out on a date! A movie that screams “Fun for the whole family.”

Dietz' relatives are horrified to discover that Dietz, the son of a wealthy merchant, is planning to marry an actress, who is known to appear in rather daring roles. Nora, the wife of the architect Heinz Ottendorf, feels neglected by her husband. He is getting more and more engrossed in his work, but Nora, apparently a stranger to hard work, suspects that the real reason for her husband's diverted attention must naturally be another woman. Robert, the cousin of Nora's friend Marianne, has long been in love with Nora and sees an opportunity to win her hand. Heinz, for all his distractions in his work and the phantom lover he doesn't have, isn't quite ready to let Nora go. While he may be married to his work, his work is a fickle mistress: he makes a career error and this leads to near financial ruin. He begs Nora to be patient with him. Marianne, who for her part is in love with Heinz, spins a web of deceit and intrigue, which leads to Robert taking a potshot at Heinz and then eventually causing Robert to kill himself.

Bernd Flor, an aging, but still very attractive, actor feels most at home playing the role of the tireless Don Juan in his private life. He's already been married six times and had left all six women, although the marriages were in no way unhappy. On the contrary: he is still on very good terms with all his ex-wives; especially with his first ex-wife, Katharina. Flor also has a grown-up son by her, Lukas, who is becoming increasingly critical of his fathers behavior with every passing year.
